Includes material relating to his activities as professor of history, sociology, and ethics, at Goshen College (1925-1966), founder of the college's Peace Society, chairman of Committee on Economic and Social Relations of Mennonite General Conference, and as a founder of Mennonite Mutual Aid. Research and publication topics focus on the Amish, capital punishment, church and labor, church and state, civil rights, conscientious objectors during World War II, draft, international relief efforts of the Mennonite Church during and after World War I, national service, peace, Quakers, race relations, religion and politics, and rural life.
